About 20 years ago José Serra Prats, also known as PEPE, decided to open a new bar in San Antonio / Ibiza. It was the time when tourism was booming as never before.
The year was 1982. The movie "E.T. - the Extra-Terrestrial" taught us to believe in the existence of Martians, "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye was one of the hottest songs, and a television show called "Dallas" debuted and kept us home at night. It was also the year MELODY opened its doors in San Antonio.
And Melody was not just another bar in town. Melody was decorated like an authentic English style pub. It caught on with the public immediately and became a new hot spot in very different surroundings than exist today. Located close to the Bay of San Antonio, it became something of a landmark.

Pepe with his wife (Gloria), daughter (Eva) and son (Samuel) - 1995

Melody is situated close to the new promenade and opposite Hotel Arenal. Here you see our entrance and terrace.

The dedication that PEPE and SAMUEL all have toward patrons is reflected in the unique, cosy ambiance the bar encompasses. Overlooking the hustle and bustle of San Antonio, you can relax and enjoy your drink. And while listening to the music, you can still hear what your neighbour says...

But what have been the key factors in this success?

  • This bar never kept up with the latest fashions and it never followed the newest trends. Melody has its own style and it remains timeless!
  • Melody offers high quality drinks in style (from local or imported beer to wine, from tea or coffee to long drinks and cocktails).
  • Here everybody pays normal "local" prices. There is no difference between low and peak season or Spaniards and tourists.
  • At Melody you can find guests of all nationalities from 19 to 99 years.
  • The music adapts to those present and the patrons do not have to adapt to the music.

Don't miss to have a look at our 1973 Wurlitzer Model 1050 "Nostalgic" Jukebox. A reinterpretation of the amazing machines of the 1940's. The last American Wurlitzer to be produced prior to the company's demise in 1974. Trying to recapture the glory days of the Golden Age, alas it was not to be and under 2,000 of these extraordinary machines where produced. 100 plays on both sides of 50 forty-five rpm records.

A drunk walks into the bar, sits down and demands a drink. "Please get out" says PEPE. "I don't serve drunks here". The drunk staggers out the front door, only to come back in through the side door. He sits at the bar, bangs his fist and demands a drink. "I just told you to leave, didn't I? Please NOW LEAVE!". The drunk gets off his stool, stumbles out the side door and, comes back inside through the back door. Once again, he sits at the bar and loudly asks for a drink. PEPE, now glowing mad, looks at the drunk and yells "I TOLD YOU, NO DRUNKS ALLOWED, NOW GET OUT!!!". The drunk looks up at the bartender and slurs "How many bars do you work at, anyway?".
